I work from my home in Glenbeigh Co. Kerry where I live with my partner Kris and our four Cats, Lu La, Tansy, Rogi and Pia Bo. My works can be seen in Fuchsia Cottage Pottery near Deelis Bridge on the ring of Kerry.

I have always felt most at home when drawing and painting and perhaps this is because of my artistic background. My great grandparents were artists and illustrators as was my grandfather. My parents also are artists in clay and paint and sell their work at Fuchsia Cottage Pottery on the Ring of Kerry. I grew up in a creative household where paint, paper, plants, clay, pets, and wood were all in free supply.

I studied Design at the Dun Laoire College of Art and Design. I consider that the creative process involves 'unlearning' and undoing oneself so that as artists we can recover the immediacy and joyful self expression of the child. I am self-taught as a painter and all I know about colour, paint, tone and texture I have taught myself through discovery and experiment.

I paint simply because I enjoy the act of creation and the various emotional states it induces from euphoria to peaceful concentration - a state of mind which is often difficult to grasp in the modern world. I see in painting an opportunity to quieten the chatter of the rational mind and connect to the sub-conscious levels of the psyche and discover the mental and emotional states hidden there. I also see in art an opportunity to visualise the world as I wish it could be - a doorway to the land of faery, and at the opposite pole as therapy and a means of exorcising demons.

I admire the work of artists in all media. I love to read the thoughts of the poets such as Keats, Hopkins, Shelley, Wordsworth, and love to find in their writing sympathetic reflections of my own thoughts generations later. I listen to musicians from Mozart to Thom Yorke, Mogwai and Led Zeppelin who lend me the energy needed to create.

Visual artists I admire include, Chagall, Klee, Cezanne, Gauguin, Van Gogh, Picasso, Redon, Matisse, Franz Marc, Bonnard, Mary Fedden, Linda Graham, Frida Khalo, Modersohn Becker, Munch and above all these any small child with a paintbrush in their hand.
